Chemical Peels (FA)

Chemical Peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure which involves the removal of dry, damaged skin cells to uncover softer and smoother skin underneath.

Who can undertake a Chemical Peel Procedure?

Anyone of any skin tone can use a chemical peel procedure. However, please inform Dr Kanowitz if you have any relevant health history such as facial scarring, facial radiation therapy, or currently experiencing a cold sore. The proper use of sun cream, moisturizer and hygiene products can enhance the outcome.

The Procedure

During the consultation, Dr Kanowitz will examine your skin and the area to be treated. He will determine and discuss with you which type of chemical peel would be the most beneficial. A chemical peel may be one of three depths:

  1. Light: a mild solution will be used to penetrate the epidermis, which is the outer layer of skin. The result will be relatively temporary and most patients will be able to return to their daily activities immediately.
  2. Medium: a solution will be used. Most medium chemical peels can be finished in 30 minutes. This stretches from the surface to the middle layer of the skin.
  3. Deep: a stronger solution will penetrate the skin deeper compared to other types of peels, and will create a longer-lasting effects. The procedure takes from 30 minutes to 90 minutes; recovery time will be from two to three weeks.

Dr Kanowitz will clean your skin first in preparation for treatment. Next, A chemical peel is applied onto your skin for the required time. Your face is washed or a naturalized solution is applied to prevent further penetration.

Following a chemical peel of any depth, Dr Kanowitz with provide instructions for cleansing and moisturising your skin. A follow up appointment will be organised to monitor your healing.
